I wrote an official statement for a cat today and, really, that is a good thing.  It has become part of our day at esd & associates since our office cat Texas Ranger also known as T.R., was crowned “Keeper of the Catnip” for the 2012 El Rey Fido Court. The folks at the San Antonio Humane Society heard about T.R. through social media and called to see if we would allow our tabby team member to run for the Catnip title. All we had to do was raise more money than the other felines in the campaign.
T.R.’s feline celebrity began with an esd tweet. That tweet led to a feature in a column and blog by a highly read San Antonio Express-News columnist. A high profile animal blog called Mousebreath also picked up T.R.’s story.
So even with a busy workload, team members from the Public Relations, Social Media, Web and Design Department jumped at the challenge to win the title. We strategized on how to raise funds in a short period of time utilizing social media as a way to get the word out. One of the largest contributions came from a Facebook friend.
T.R.’s coronation is on April 14, the beginning of the San Antonio’s 10 day Fiesta celebration. We will be there at the coronation wearing official Team T.R. shirts and pushing a cat carrier/stroller, designed by another social media connection that fell in love with T.R.
T.R. appears regularly on esd & associates Facebook and Twitter. He has his own Facebook and Twitter accounts. A twitter post lead to T.R.’s campaign to win “Keeper of the Catnip” and the Humane Society surpassed its goal and raised $53,000 to help homeless cats and dogs.
T.R. is a rescue cat with nine lives who has touched many more lives.
