One of the best ways to learn about Digital Marketing is through a Digital Marketing job. Ironically, however, it’s not always easy to get a call back from a company without experience. So, one thing you can do is take advantage of the free resources organizations offer. This might take some research to find on your part, but we have linked a few free/inexpensive certifications you can get below:

  • Google Analytics Academy: Google offers many free online courses with certificates you can add to your resume, this one in particular, helps you learn about Google’s data measurement tools so you can understand the metrics behind your business.
  • Hubspot Academy: Hubspot focuses more on inbound marketing vs outbound when it comes to online. Basically, this means that they advocate for businesses to create valuable content and experiences that attract their customers, instead of just sending irrelevant interrupting messages your audience may not want. These courses go more into detail about what that looks like and also give you certificates you can add to your resume.
  • Facebook/Meta: If you are looking at social media specifically, a great certification for you would be the Meta certification. Since Meta (aka Facebook) bought Instagram, you can now look at data and posts from both your Facebook and Instagram accounts. This makes it a 2-in-1 certificate, and if you combine it with research about running ads, you will surely stand out in the application process.

As you go through these certifications, try to practice in real-time by running ads and creating posts on social media. Practice with each platform and try to understand how the algorithms differ. You can run an ad with as little as $1, and learn more about how boosting and posting affect engagement.

In addition to certifications, it would be a great idea to spend some time reading business-related news articles and case studies to get a better understanding of what is trending. Trends are important to keep in mind as they allow you to stay up to date with the latest marketing strategies and information.
